The emphasis in Science is on learning through practical experiences. We teach the children to work and think scientifically using the skills of observation, communication, interpretation and experimental design. The children are expected to handle materials and use equipment, both individually and in groups, encouraging active participation. The content and nature of the selected activities in all years are planned to follow the requirements of the National Curriculum.
Children are encouraged to ask questions and predict outcomes before making their scientific investigations. Work is recorded in a variety of ways, orally as well as in writing. Children’s language skills will be developed in the Science lessons and they will have the opportunity to apply aspects of Mathematics in a scientific situation. Wherever possible, the work in Science will draw upon and support work in other subject areas.
